Our Materials

We founded Blue Moon & Co on the belief that making incredible jewelry doesn’t have to come at the cost of our values, our community, or our planet. In order to minimize environmental impacts, we offer gold recycling for your old unused jewelry, as well as repurposing gold for custom pieces.

Moreover, we ensure authentic, ethically sourced materials for everything in our shop. Respect is at the core of what we do - for you, for people, and for the planet. Plus, we provide a certificate of authenticity for all pieces above $5,000, so you know your hard cash is put towards personal decor that’s 100% real.

Precious Metals

10K + 14k Solid Gold

Solid gold is a beautiful metal that won’t oxidize or discolor since it is generally unreactive. Plus, our gold is more scratch resistant than 18k, making it ideal for everyday wear.

To ensure a positive impact for people and the planet, we source a mix of recycled and ethically mined gold. We recycle gold in-shop to ensure it is of a pure, high quality. Additionally, gold mining is a livelihood for millions worldwide, so we make sure that any newly mined gold is fair trade or certified by international ethical and sustainability standards.

Using warm water and detergent-free soap, lightly scrub with a soft-bristled brush. Then use a clean cloth to gently buff. Store in a safe, dry place when not being worn.

Sterling Silver

Since pure silver is soft and malleable, it is highly susceptible to damage and thus is not well-suited for jewelry. So instead, we use sterling silver, a metal alloy made of 92.5% pure silver plus 7.5% copper. Our sterling silver jewelry is often plated with rhodium to provide a bright white finish which is more resistant to scratching as well.

To clean, gently polish with a silver cloth. When not worn, store in a safe, dry place. Remove your jewelry before washing your hands, showering, or exercising. Always apply creams, perfumes, and hair care products before wearing.

King Of Diamonds + Gems

Here at Blue Moon, diamonds are our specialty. As such, we ensure all our diamonds are ethically sourced and certified. We utilize 3 different types with various clarities:

SI - “Slightly Included” refers to the small inclusions in the diamond. Basically, these have partial elements visible in the diamond, usually at 10x magnification and sometimes with the naked eye. These are the most affordable diamonds and often used when fully ‘icing’ a piece.

VS - “Very Small Inclusions” are inconsistencies in the diamond only visible at 10x magnification or greater - and usually take even experts time to find.

VVS - “Very Very Small Inclusions” are the most expensive diamonds we use. They have only minuscule flaws which are difficult to find even at 10x magnification.

Use warm water, detergent-free soap, plus a soft-bristled brush, rinsing the stone and setting afterward to make sure there is no residue. When not worn, store in a safe, dry place.

Our gemstones are genuine mineral stones, valued for their beauty, longevity and rarity. We use a variety of precious and semi-precious stones that are either cabochon stones - cut into smooth domes - or faceted stones - made in geometric shapes utilizing artful facets.

Keeping gemstones clean and shiny is simple: scrub lightly with a soft-bristled brush, warm water and, as always, detergent-free soap. Avoid excessive temperatures and chemicals when cleaning. When not worn, store in a safe, dry place.
